 | Appartment Pripyat, Ukraine
June 2005
Pripyat. Its river-water drove the turbines in the Chernobyl power plant, and it gave its name to the town that stands mute four kilometres from the scene of the world's worst nuclear accident. Pripyat has become iconic, emblematic of Chernobyl. Disaster tourism has arrived - for 300 dollars you can get a tour of the "ghost town", and see the fissured footpaths, the peeling paint, the swinging doors, the rusting signs - all that remains of a town of 45,000 souls. |
